When Captain Tama’s approached me for a logo and website redesign, I was eager to dive into this captivating project.

When Captain Tama’s approached me for a logo and website redesign, I was eager to dive into this captivating project. My previous experience with Cook Island clients, including Aitutaki.com, Turama Pacific Travel Group, and the Aitutaki Marathon, had given me a deep appreciation for the vibrant island culture and the importance of traditional patterns and symbols.

Drawing inspiration from island heritage: the Manu Tai symbol.

Captain Tama’s, renowned for their iconic Muri Lagoon glass-bottom boat cruise, needed a standout logo and website to set them apart from the competition. To achieve this, I drew inspiration from traditional Rarotongan symbols for the logo design.

The Manu Tai, or sea birds, became a central motif. These birds, revered by sailors as harbingers of good news, symbolise the presence of fish or nearby land—perfectly embodying the spirit of adventure and discovery associated with Captain Tama’s.

Integrating tradition with modern design: the new logo concept.

In designing the logo, I chose to integrate the Manu Tai along with the original clownfish icon, maintaining brand continuity while infusing new energy. The wordmark “Captain Tama’s Lagoon Cruizes” was designed as an outline, reflecting the transparent, immersive experience of the glass-bottom boat. This approach ensured the logo’s versatility and visibility across various backgrounds.

For the website, I continued the Manu Tai theme, using these symbols to guide visitors through the site’s content. The design incorporated bright, vibrant colours to reflect Captain Tama’s fun and adventurous spirit, creating an engaging and cohesive user experience.
